Use Case title: Use Cases related to Earth Science (ES) Applications
Short description: The Earth Science community (ES) covers a large number of domains varying over topics like the solid earth, the oceans, the atmosphere and their interfaces up to space weather and planetology. This community has set up active collaboration with teams on a worldwide base and has been used to work in a distributed way. It is conglomerated by research institutes, organizations and industries.
An Earth Science application consists of a multiple programs, data sets, aiming at answering an Earth Science scientific question or aiming at producing products for further research. The applications cover several Earth Science fields however they have mainly common requirements. The aim at this stage is to describe a list of applications, table.1, that have representatives ES requirements.
A general use case from ES applications is to provide: a detailed description of the applications, test and procedure specifications, and all what is needed to port the application. The purpose of such documentations is to bring to developers some material in order to test and check if their software matches the Earth Science requirements. Thus, the requirements are linked on a part to the Middleware and on the other part are relevant to the functionalities which can be used with the Middleware. The requirements are covering specific domains such as:
- Security
- Virtual Organisation
- Data and metadata management
- Workflow
- Application deployment
- Other miscellaneous requirements.
Actors involved: VO coordinator, Application’s leader or user.
