UC-SEEGRID-VI
From EGI Knowledge Base
Use Case title: Interoperability of national and regional Grids
Short description: Despite using different middleware stacks, development, testing, deployment and management procedures, all Grids participating in EGI should be able to interoperate, making further collaboration seamless in terms of Grid operations. SEE-GRID-2 experience shows that, even if the same middleware stack is used, interoperability with other Grids requires a significant amount of effort.
Actors involved: EGI, national and regional Grids, middleware developing projects
Related Requirement: User communities from EGI members should be able to seamlessly use existing Grid infrastructures for their eScience collaborative work.
Pre-conditions (optional): Participating national and regional Grids should commit human and hardware resources for work on interoperability issues.
Steps:
- Negotiate an agreement on interoperability guidelines that should be followed by middleware developers, and national and regional Grids
- Create portal where interoperability guidelines and related information will be published
- Create an interoperability working group for testing of conformance of middleware components to interoperability guidelines; components found to be conformant with the guidelines are recommended for deployment
- Assessment results obtained by the interoperability working group are published on the interoperability portal
- Interoperability guidelines are continually reviewed and updated as needed
- Interoperability working group can suggest development of new middleware components designed to bridge differences in interfaces of various middleware stacks
Post-conditions (optional): N/A
Project(s) involved (optional): EGI_SD; EGEE, SEE-GRID-2; other interested regional projects
Middleware (optional): All
Application(s) (optional): N/A
