Use Case title: NGI profiling and development monitoring

Short description: The NGIs are the main EGI partners. According to SEE countries experience there are different approaches in NGI set up and development. The EGI should be aware about their profile and it should be interested in continuous monitoring of their development according to generally accepted performance metrics. There is an important experience already accumulated in this area at the level of regional projects. In case of SEE-GRID-2, supporting NGI sustainable development in the region is among major objectives of the project.

Actors involved: EGI, SEE-GRID-2, other interested regional projects, NGI representatives.

Related Requirement: Refine the EGI-NGI collaboration model in the sense of considering the stakeholder role of the regional projects.

Pre-conditions: (optional) - Regional projects that could contribute to this UC have been identified. - A collaboration framework between actors involved has been established.

Steps:

  1. Agree on the ontology of the NGI domain
  2. Collect information about NGI development in EGI partner countries
  3. Identify the main characteristics of each NGI, relevant for the EGI-NGI interaction (e.g. NGI initiator, NGI juridical status, governmental support level, NGI relevance for the national Grid community)
  4. Based on (3) decide on the NGI profiles taxonomy and assess their adequacy for the EGI-NGI collaboration model
  5. Identify the NGI development monitoring metrics that are common across this taxonomy and relevant for the EGI activity
  6. Implement a monitoring mechanism at the level of all EGI partner countries.

Post-conditions (optional):

  • Ontology defined
  • NGI profiles and their characteristics identified
  • NGI performance metrics agreed
  • Monitoring system implemented.

Project(s) involved (optional): EGI_SD, SEE-GRID-2, other interested regional projects.
