UC-SEEGRID-II
From EGI Knowledge Base
Use Case title: Categorization and Publication of Grid Applications on a Common Web Repository
Short description: Considering that most of the grid infrastructures have reached a stability and serve at production level, EGI should take concrete action to categorize the existing grid applications and to encourage new ones. Consequently, establishment of a common repository for grid applications is proposed so that efficient use of the infrastructures would be enabled with the proper collaboration of applications/disciplines.
Actors involved: EGI, SEE-GRID-2, other interested regional or application specific projects, contact points for applications from NGI bodies.
Related Requirement: Establishment of close collaboration between grid projects (both regional and application-specific projects) and EGI regarding the sharing of experiences and construction of application repository.
Pre-conditions: (optional)
- Regional, application-specific grid projects that could contribute to this UC should be identified.
- A collaboration framework between actors involved should be prepared.
Steps:
- Create a web repository for existing and planned grid applications
- Decide on the important information to be published for each application, some of the points to be included can be as follows:
- short application description
- results obtained or expected
- user community achieved or targeted
- existing collaboration with other projects/VOs if applicable
- publications if applicable
- web portal of the application if applicable
- user manual of the application if applicable
- contact information
- Based on step 2, create a template to be used commonly for each application at the repository
- Collect the required information for the template of applications from projects and EGI partner countries
- From collected data, select existing and planned applications to be published by using the relevant criteria from Common Assessment Criteria for Applications Use Case.
- Categorize the selected applications according to their disciplines
- Categorize the selected applications according to their characteristics, i.e., infrastructural requirements such as data intensive, high performance requiring...
- Propose a sustainable framework for continuous data collection and repository maintenance.
Post-conditions (optional):
- Existing grid applications will be reachable from a single repository.
- The repository will prevent effort duplications for similar applications and will enable possible collaborations between projects and applications.
- Based on the analysis of the repository, new interdisciplinary grand challenge problems can be identified as potential grid applications.
Project(s) involved (optional): EGI_SD, SEE-GRID-2, other interested regional projects.
Middleware (optional): Not applicable.
Application(s) (optional):
- Involved applications will be identified by the actors of this use case.
