Use Case title: Regional participation in the European Grid Infrastructure

Short description: In order to have a more optimal use of resource sin smaller countries it is often beneficial to create regional metacenters that represent the single state in in bigger international projects. A good example of this is NORDUnet A/S running research network for the Nordics and participates in EU research projects on behalf of the member states.

Actors involved: The national Grid infrastructures of small countries. Esps. Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, and Sweden

Steps:

  • Encourage smaller states to participate through regional entities.
  • Isolate the regional players
  • Create a model for this kind of participation.

Project(s) involved (optional): Nordic Data Grid Facility - currently operating the virtual Nordic Core Infrastructure Center and a the Nordic Tier-1 based on resources provided by the Nordic states.


Middleware (optional): Ensure interoperability between Regional infrastructures and the European Infrastructure. Might be left to the regional participants.
