Use Case title: Resources negotiation for VO

Short description: The use case shows the target model for collecting resources for VO and negotiations. The current (EGEE) version of this use case, is rather 'manual' and is based on the OAG-ROC-RC model, while communication is based mainly on e-mail exchange. The proposed model is based on direct communication between RC and VO Managers, supported by a specialized collaboration tool (Resource Allocation Portal). The role of NGI and EGI operators is limited to control of the 'market' and solving problems that may occur.

Actors involved: RC Manager, VO manager, NGI/EGI Operator

Related requirements: motivation for RC to actively provide resources to VOs should exist, this require to define a kind of grid market.

Pre-conditions:

  • VO and RC have knowledge about the procedure
  • A tool for communication exists - we call it RAP (Resources Allocation Portal)

Steps: The presented steps are simplified, but show the concept of the proposed mode which strengthen direct communication between actors:.

  1. VO defines a call for resources, which is visible in RAP for all or limited RCs (according to call definition).
  2. RC answers the call with description of the resource it can offer including time period and details specific for the service
  3. Each VO and RC negotiate the details of the contract in pairs
  4. The VO collects a set of resources and proposes contracts to selected RCs, refusing the other RCs
  5. Tracing of contracts is performed in RAP, which includes acceptance of configuration, negotiation of amendments in the contracts, etc.
  6. The contract fee is charged basing on grid accounting and other rules specified in the contract.
  7. In the case of a conflict, the NGI operator local to both participants is contacted; alternatively if actors from different NGIs are involved the contact point is a EGI operator.

EGI/NGI operators role is limited to controlling the market, settle conflicts, etc.

Project(s) involved (optional): The PL-Grid Project prepares a tool for VO/RC negotiation and will introduce this kind of procedures.

Middleware (optional):

  • Portal for RC/VO negotiation (implementation called BAZAAR, developed at CYFRONET).
  • The described model is general enough to work in different Grids

Comments: CYFRONET is interested in participation in efforts that focus on defining a grid market and procedures for resource negotiation between VOs and RCs.We can offer a collaboration tool BAZAAR, that was developed to support direct negotiations between VO and RC managers.
