Use Case title: Large-scale brain simulation
Short description: Modelling of brain areas and simulation of complex models of brain dynamics involving multiple brain areas.
Actors involved: Neuro-science community, robotics, computational neuro-science, VO coordinator and VO operator
Related Requirement: Offering the service on demand especially in medical areas would enhance the value of the service and the infrastructure as a whole. High parallelization is needed.
Steps: The actual steps required, so that the use case can be materialised. Large scale models are currently being executed in private/local clusters. In order for the transition to be performed in the Grid infrastructure the following steps are needed
- Gridification of the process
- Education of the end-users
- Rendering tools have to be developed
- Workflow definition in the Grid environment
- Pre-processing and post-processing of the data
Middleware
- Parallel simulators
- Parallel rendering environment
- Storage facilities
- Math libraries
- Data analysis libraries
- Compiler with high parallelization support (e.g MPI, OpenMP)
The target is to build a framework that could be highly used in: Medical Decision Support Systems and Robotics
