Use Case title:

Short description: One possibly role for EGI could be to act as CA for grid certificates for the European researchers. The NGIs should act as RA’s for EGI.

The need for certificate is at the moment the biggest hindrance for the scientist to start using grids. Before the user can get some results of experience from the grid usage he/she has had to put lot of effort for getting certificates, installing those on browser etc. The competition in science is many times so hectic that the researcher does not have time or energy to test if grids could give him/her some added value. In Finland the level of start using grid should be relatively low, because in principle every Finnish University researcher will get the certificate upon request through CSC. It is also a bridge to all major European grid infrastructures. Still for the individual user finding the benefits of using grid resources over the local ones is difficult. The acquiring of the certificates and grid usage should go through NGIs, which are close to the end-user.
