The Spanish National Grid Initiative is being launched within the framework of the Spanish e-Science Network, that was recently (November 2007) funded by the Ministry of Education and Science for 2008 and 2009. This initiative is supported by 68 research groups and centers, and will exploit their experience from the participation in many Grid projects to strength the existing collaboration and offer to the research community different support levels: production, development, dissemination and formation. Some of the actions already on-going are: -Coordination of common elements, like the internationally accepted Certification Authority, the interface with the Network Operation Center, global monitoring of resources, software and application repositories, and contact with developers. -Setup in a coordinated way a Grid Infrastructure supported by the institutions participating in the e-Science Network that will support new developments. -Follow-up the services offered, and analyze the cost-performance relation and researchers’ satisfaction to design the best possible framework at medium term to guarantee the sustainability of this e-Infrastructure.
