The Bulgarian Grid Consortium is reportedly the only NGI in Europe which fulfills all of the following:
- it is recognised by its governmental authority, the State Agency for Information Technology and Communications;
- it is its own separate legal entity;
- it does not have a time-limited mandate; and
- it has guaranteed sustainable funding.
BGGC was established in September of 2002.
